Expert Advocates Inclusion of Indian Knowledge System in School Curriculum
An education expert has called for the inclusion of the Indian Knowledge System (IKS) in school curricula to promote cultural awareness and holistic learning among students. Speaking at a seminar in Vizianagaram on Wednesday, the expert highlighted that IKS encompasses India’s rich heritage in science, mathematics, philosophy, medicine, arts, and ethical values, which can complement modern education.
The expert argued that integrating IKS into classrooms would help students appreciate indigenous knowledge, foster critical thinking, and develop problem-solving skills rooted in local contexts. He also emphasized that such an initiative could instill a sense of pride in India’s intellectual traditions while preparing students to contribute meaningfully to contemporary challenges.
Educationists and policymakers present at the event suggested developing structured modules and training teachers to effectively deliver the content. They recommended that the curriculum should be age-appropriate and integrated with existing subjects rather than taught as an isolated topic, ensuring a seamless learning experience for students.
