Ferozepur goes green as a major solar initiative gains momentum with strong financial backing. National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development has sanctioned ₹4.88 crore under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund to promote renewable energy in the district. This step reflects a growing focus on sustainable infrastructure and clean power solutions.
The project will install solar power systems across 113 government buildings, creating a total capacity of 1.16 MW. Punjab Energy Development Agency will lead the implementation. The initiative will help reduce dependence on conventional electricity and encourage decentralized energy production. It also supports the broader goals of the Aspirational District Programme, which focuses on improving key development indicators.
Officials expect the project to significantly cut electricity costs in public offices, schools, and other government facilities. District Development Manager Rohit Kashyap stated that the initiative will lower carbon emissions and contribute to a cleaner environment. He emphasized that adopting solar energy will also reduce the burden on traditional power grids, especially during peak demand hours.
