Four Weddings and Three Funerals: UP Man’s Multi-Crore Insurance Scam
Vishal Singhal, a resident of Hapur, Uttar Pradesh, has been arrested for allegedly orchestrating the deaths of his first wife, father, and mother to claim insurance payouts totaling ₹50 crore. Singhal’s father, Mukesh Singhal, held 64 life insurance policies across various companies, including Niva Bupa, Tata AIG, Max Life, Aditya Birla, and HDFC Ergo. Singhal was named the nominee in all these policies.
The deaths were reported as road accidents, but investigations revealed discrepancies in medical records and timelines, suggesting the incidents were staged. Singhal had already received approximately ₹1.5 crore from previous claims. Police are examining financial records and loans taken shortly before the deaths, which were cleared posthumously. The case has been linked to a broader multi-state insurance fraud scheme.
