Gen Z Protests Could Shake India, Warns KTR

Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) working president KT Rama Rao, popularly known as KTR, warned that India could witness Gen Z protests similar to Nepal if governments fail to meet young people’s aspirations.

Speaking at the NDTV Yuva Conclave, he said the recent protests in Nepal began with people demanding better access to the internet but grew into a fight for their future. “Initially, the media mocked them, but they were protesting for their future,” KTR said.

When asked if similar protests could happen in India, he replied, “If governments continue to fail the aspirations of the people of India, why not?” Addressing young attendees, he added, “The night is still young, let’s see.”

KTR praised Gen Z as ambitious, bold, and digitally active. He cited Hyderabad Central University students leading a campaign to save 400 acres of forest land, which ultimately received a favorable Supreme Court response.

He stressed that social media activism alone is not enough. India, he said, needs “adventure capital” and a generation ready to redefine the world order.

On BRS losing to Congress in Telangana, KTR admitted one reason could be that youth expectations were not met.
