Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation Proposal Receives Positive Nod from CM Naidu
Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has given a positive response to the proposal for the formation of the Greater Vijayawada Municipal Corporation (GVMC), officials said on Wednesday. The proposal involves merging approximately 75 surrounding villages into the existing Vijayawada Municipal Corporation, creating a larger urban governance framework.
Vijayawada MP Kesineni Sivanath (Chinni) welcomed the Chief Minister’s nod, noting that the merger would significantly boost the development of industrial corridors, IT parks, and tourism investments in the region. He emphasised that the expanded municipal corporation would enable better infrastructure planning, improved civic amenities, and streamlined administration across the newly integrated areas.
Officials highlighted that the proposed GVMC would also facilitate enhanced urban planning, efficient delivery of public services, and more robust governance mechanisms. The move is expected to attract further investments, promote economic growth, and transform Vijayawada into a modern, well-connected urban centre, benefiting residents, businesses, and the overall State economy.
