The government has updated GST rates, affecting different product categories.
Items under the 5% slab include toothpaste, chips, jam, juice, pasta, noodles, butter, ghee, medicines, and farm produce, keeping them affordable.
The 18% slab covers TVs, computers, furniture, washing machines, water filters, sewing machines, and other electronics.
The 40% slab applies to luxury and non-essential goods such as tobacco products, online gaming, beer, and luxury items.
Essential foods, emergency medicines, and educational materials stay tax-free (0% GST). Officials are also considering adding health insurance to this category.
