Mallikarjuna Kharge Criticizes Modi’s Economic Record, Highlights Unemployment Crisis

Mallikarjuna Kharge slams Modi's economic record and highlights unemployment crisis.

Mallikarjuna Kharge, the Chief of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) and Leader of the Opposition in Rajya Sabha, has sharply criticized Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s handling of India’s economy. In a tweet on the platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), Kharge dismissed Modi’s speeches on the economy as meaningless and expressed grave concerns over rising unemployment and the worsening financial condition of the Indian public.

Kharge accused the Prime Minister of mismanaging the economy during his 11-year tenure, asserting that the nation’s economic situation has significantly worsened. He highlighted alarming statistics, including a surge in unemployment, with 19% of jobless individuals under the age of 29 and 44.5% of those aged between 20 and 24 years. Moreover, he pointed out that only 54.8% of graduates are able to secure employment.

Kharge also emphasized the drastic decline in wage labor, which accounted for 9.3% of the workforce in 2006, now dropping to just 0.1%. He criticized the plummeting public savings, which have fallen to 18.1%, coupled with rising debt levels, further reflecting the weakening economy under the current government.
