Jagan’s Selective Jail Visits: Political Strategy or Legal Caution?

YSR Congress Party leader Jagan Mohan Reddy walking, reflecting his selective approach to jail visits amid political and legal controversy.

After losing power, several YSR Congress Party (YSRCP) leaders were arrested, including Vallabhaneni Vamsi and Kakani Govardhan Reddy. Jagan Mohan Reddy visited many of them in jail but skipped others, like his close associate Mithun Reddy, involved in the liquor scam. This selective approach has raised questions about Jagan’s strategy.

Although Jagan repeatedly denies involvement in the liquor scam, rumors persist. His decision not to visit some jailed figures, including retired IAS officer Dhanunjay Reddy and OSD Krishna Mohan Reddy, may be influenced by legal advice. It appears Jagan wants to avoid any perception of coordinating with the accused.

The situation in the YSRCP is concerning. Despite losing power 13 months ago, the party has failed to strengthen its grassroots network. Jagan’s limited presence and occasional visits have drawn criticism. In contrast, TDP’s Chandrababu Naidu worked actively to re-engage with party workers after his party’s loss. Critics argue that Jagan must take a more proactive approach to revitalize the party.
