The Gujarat ATS Pakistan Gang probe moved forward on Friday as the Gujarat Anti-Terrorist Squad arrested Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi Billa. The accused played a key role in smuggling arms for a Pakistan-linked gang that planned grenade attacks in India. The Gujarat ATS Pakistan Gang investigation intensified after Punjab police shared specific intelligence on his location.
ATS teams tracked him to Halol town in Panchmahal district. Officers learnt that Singh recently took up work as a labourer in a local factory, hoping to hide from the police. The team apprehended him from a hotel and brought him in for questioning.
Punjab police had earlier arrested two operatives in Gurdaspur. Their statements exposed Singh’s involvement in smuggling two grenades and two pistols for the gang. Investigators say the conspiracy was directed by handlers of Pakistan’s ISI. The gang leaders, Manu Agwan and Maninder Billa, currently stay in Malaysia and recruit youths in Punjab for terror activities across States.
Officials say the group planned grenade attacks in crowded public places to create fear and destabilise security. Singh admitted his role during questioning.
ATS officials will now hand him over to Punjab police as both States coordinate the next steps in the case.
