Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd (HAL) has several Tejas aircraft ready but faces delays due to a shortage of engines from General Electric (GE). Dr. DK Sunil, HAL’s Chief Managing Director, explained that this issue is holding back their production targets.
HAL depends on GE for critical engines, which has created a bottleneck in the company’s delivery schedules. Despite this, Dr. Sunil confirmed that the third engine for Tejas arrived recently, and they are now fitting it into the aircraft.
HAL has already built five Tejas aircraft, with one more undergoing flight trials. Dr. Sunil said, “The aircraft are ready; we are just waiting for engines.”
GE has promised to speed up the engine supply process. Dr. Sunil assured that HAL would still meet its commitment to deliver 10 aircraft this financial year. If engine supplies improve, they aim to deliver 12 Tejas jets.
