An outbreak of diarrhea has gripped Guntur district, with 33 patients currently undergoing treatment at Guntur Government Hospital (GGH). Among them, the condition of a 53-year-old man, Ramana Reddy, is reported to be critical. The situation has raised serious health concerns as cases continue to rise across several localities.
Residents from Srinagar, Redlabazaar, Mangaladasnagar, Rajagopalnagar, Ramireddythota, Sampathnagar, Nallacheruvu, Bhagyangar, RTC Colony, and Buchchayyathota have been admitted with severe vomiting and diarrhea. Patients from Tadepalli, Tenali, Obulnaidupalem, and Reddypalem have also sought treatment at GGH in recent days.
Victims allege that contaminated drinking water is the main cause, complaining of foul-smelling tap water being supplied to households. Despite bringing the issue to officials’ attention, no corrective measures have been taken so far, they said. In response to the rising numbers, hospital authorities have set up a special ward in the General Surgery department to handle the influx of patients.
