Union Civil Aviation Minister Rammohan Naidu Kinjarapu has invited Rajya Sabha Member Rajinder Gupta to attend the Halwara Airport inauguration on February 1, 2026. Through this invitation, the Centre has underlined its commitment to strengthening regional aviation infrastructure in Punjab.
According to the official communication, the programme will also include the formal naming of Adampur Airport as Guru Ravidas Ji Airport, Adampur. Authorities will conduct the renaming ceremony alongside the inauguration of the newly built terminal at Halwara Airport. Together, these developments will mark a major step in Punjab’s aviation growth.
The Airports Authority of India (AAI) and the Punjab Government jointly developed the new Halwara Airport terminal. The project features a modern passenger terminal, upgraded operational facilities, and supporting infrastructure. The agencies completed the development at a cost of ₹54.67 crore, reflecting strong public investment in regional air connectivity.
The new terminal will improve civilian air services in the Ludhiana region. It will enhance passenger comfort and reduce travel time. Moreover, better air connectivity will support local industries, encourage tourism, and attract new investment. As a result, the region can expect wider economic benefits.
Rajinder Gupta played a decisive role in advancing both initiatives. He raised the demand to rename Adampur Airport after Guru Ravidas Ji in Parliament. In addition, he consistently pursued the construction of the Halwara Airport terminal with the Government of India. Because of his efforts, both projects gained momentum.
Political observers view the Halwara Airport inauguration as a clear sign of coordination between the Centre and the Punjab Government. Furthermore, the event highlights the government’s focus on expanding infrastructure beyond major metropolitan areas.
On February 1, senior officials from the Civil Aviation Ministry, AAI, and the Punjab Government will attend the ceremony. Overall, the inauguration will strengthen Punjab’s aviation network and open new opportunities for regional development.
