Heavy Rains Devastate Crops in Nellore District

Heavy rains in Nellore district destroy paddy fields, leaving farmers in distress and urging government help.

Heavy rains across Andhra Pradesh’s Nellore district have caused severe distress among residents, especially farmers. With crops ready for harvest, the unexpected downpour has left them in despair. Farmers say that months of hard work have gone to waste as their fields are now submerged.

In Kulluru and Venkatreddypalli villages of Kaluvayi mandal, around 400 acres of paddy fields have been completely flooded. Farmers watched helplessly as their nearly harvested paddy crops drowned in rainwater. The continuous flow of floodwater over the fields has damaged the crops beyond recovery.

Paddy spikes have begun to sprout due to prolonged submersion, deepening the farmers’ anguish. They lament that the harvest they were waiting for has turned into a heartbreaking loss. Many expressed fears that without immediate government support, they may not recover financially from this devastation.

Farmers have urged the government to act swiftly and provide compensation for the crop loss. They warned that if help does not reach them soon, extreme distress may drive some to consider suicide. The community hopes for urgent relief measures to prevent further tragedy.
