High Court Urges Karnataka to Scrap Bengaluru–Mysuru Corridor Project After 25 Years of Delay
The Karnataka High Court has asked the State government to scrap the long-delayed Bengaluru–Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor (BMIC) project, observing that only one kilometre of road had been built in 25 years. Expressing strong displeasure over the project’s progress, the court remarked that instead of easing congestion by developing five townships along the corridor, the project had ended up clogging the High Court and other courts with prolonged litigation.
Hearing a batch of petitions related to the project, the court criticised successive governments and private developers for failing to deliver on promises made to the public. It noted that large tracts of land were acquired, but infrastructure development remained negligible, causing hardship to landowners and commuters alike.
The court said the project had become a symbol of administrative failure and legal entanglement. It urged the government to take a decisive call, either by restructuring the project or abandoning it altogether, to prevent further waste of public resources and judicial time.
