The Bharatiya Janata Party has claimed that Hindus in West Bengal face vulnerabilities similar to those in neighbouring Bangladesh. The statement followed a social media post by Bangladeshi writer and poet Taslima Nasreen, which showed visuals of Hindu homes being set on fire in Chittagong.

Nasreen’s post described an incident in Rauzan, Chittagong, where a Muslim mob allegedly locked Hindu families inside their houses, poured petrol, and set the homes ablaze. She questioned how long such attacks would continue and whether Bangladesh’s caretaker government would act against those responsible.

BJP IT Cell chief Amit Malviya shared the post on X and drew a sharp comparison between the two regions. He alleged that while Hindus in Bangladesh face violence from radical mobs, Hindus in West Bengal suffer police action when they protest against such incidents.

Malviya referred to a recent police lathi charge on members of the Hindu Jagran Manch. The protest took place outside the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata. Demonstrators had gathered to protest the killing of a Hindu man, Dipu Chandra Das, in Bangladesh.

The BJP leader criticised Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, calling the police action a serious failure of governance. He accused the state administration of suppressing peaceful protests and ignoring concerns raised by the Hindu community.

The remarks have intensified political debate over minority safety and law enforcement in the state.
