Suspended Trinamool Congress MLA Humayun Kabir has launched a new political party named Janata Unnayan Party in West Bengal. He announced the move soon after the TMC suspended him over controversial remarks and actions. Kabir claims his party will contest the upcoming Assembly elections and win 100 seats.
The former minister said he formed the party to work for common people and offer an alternative political platform. West Bengal will face Assembly elections in nearly three months. Kabir believes the timing will help him connect with voters.
Kabir recently drew attention after a symbolic foundation ceremony for a Babri Masjid in Murshidabad. The event triggered strong political reactions and led to his suspension from the TMC. RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat later called such moves political conspiracies that could revive old disputes.
Responding to Bhagwat, Kabir said he respected him but rejected claims that unrest would follow. He also targeted Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and alleged links between her party and the RSS. Kabir further praised Prime Minister Narendra Modi, calling his work ethic inspiring.
Kabir has switched parties several times in recent years. He earlier contested the 2019 Lok Sabha elections on a BJP ticket. He later joined the TMC and served as a minister. His new political gamble now raises questions about its impact on Bengal’s complex electoral landscape.
