Hyderabad is witnessing a sharp increase in viral fevers and dengue-like infections, with thousands of patients crowding government and private hospitals daily. Doctors said most of the cases involve children who are showing typical viral symptoms such as cough, sore throat, body pains, runny nose, and high fever. In some cases, rashes are also appearing, raising suspicion of dengue.

At the State-run Fever Hospital in Nallakunta, doctors are seeing 900 to 1,200 patients every day from Hyderabad and nearby districts. “Cases of viral fevers have clearly gone up. Most patients recover within three to four days with treatment,” said Dr. A Jayalakshmi, Senior Resident Medical Officer at the Fever Hospital.

Gandhi Hospital and Osmania General Hospital are also reporting a heavy rush of patients. Each hospital now records over 2,000 outpatients daily, with a majority showing symptoms of viral fevers, dengue, or chikungunya. To manage the rising numbers, Director of Medical Education Dr. N Vani instructed both hospitals to extend outpatient hours until 1:30 pm.

Public Health Director Dr. B Ravinder Nayak has urged residents to take precautions against vector and water-borne diseases like malaria, dengue, chikungunya, typhoid, and gastroenteritis.
