IMD issues orange alert for eight districts in Kerala on Friday (September 26, 2025). The warning covers Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, and Thrissur.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted thunderstorms with light to moderate rainfall. It also cautioned that surface wind speeds may touch 40 km per hour in the alert districts. IMD issues orange alert for eight districts in Kerala to ensure residents stay prepared for severe weather.
In response, the District Collector of Thiruvananthapuram declared a holiday for all educational institutions, including professional colleges. Authorities also advised fishers to avoid venturing into the sea during the rough conditions.
The IMD further forecast moderate rainfall at isolated places in Malappuram and Kozhikode, where wind speeds could reach 30 km per hour. Emergency teams have been placed on standby to deal with possible waterlogging, tree falls, and power disruptions.
Officials urged people living in low-lying areas and hilly regions to remain alert. The government stressed that the orange alert means a higher level of preparedness than the yellow warning. With heavy rain and strong winds expected, residents are advised to follow safety guidelines closely.
