India Bloc Criticizes Centre for Rejecting Metro Projects in Tamil Nadu
The India bloc has strongly criticized the Union Government for returning proposals for Metro Rail projects in Madurai and Coimbatore, alleging that the central authorities did not provide valid reasons for the rejection. Senior DMK leader Pon Muthuramalingam stated that denying these projects undermines the development needs of two major cities in Tamil Nadu, which are experiencing rapid urbanization and increasing transport demands.
The DMK and allied parties argue that metro projects are essential for sustainable urban mobility, easing traffic congestion, reducing pollution, and promoting economic growth. By not approving the proposals, the Centre has sparked political backlash and raised concerns about equitable infrastructure development across states.
Local leaders have urged the Union Government to reconsider the decision promptly and provide clear, justified reasoning. They emphasized that implementing metro systems in Madurai and Coimbatore is crucial for the long-term development and quality of life of citizens.
