India is celebrating its 75th Constitution Day today, marking 75 years since the Constituent Assembly adopted the Constitution on 26 November 1949. This year’s theme, “Hamara Samvidhan, Hamara Swabhiman,” reflects a renewed focus on strengthening democratic values and civic responsibility. Events across ministries, schools, universities, courts, and public institutions highlighted the core ideals of justice, liberty, equality, and fraternity.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh greeted the nation, calling the day a reminder of the visionaries who laid the foundation of India’s republic. He urged citizens to reaffirm their commitment to justice and equality and work toward the future envisioned by Dr B.R. Ambedkar. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath emphasised unity, equal rights, and the Constitution’s role in safeguarding democratic ideals. Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju also called for collective dedication to the Constitution’s guiding principles.
The government’s outreach initiative saw unprecedented participation, with over 13,700 events and engagement across 2.5 lakh Panchayats under the campaigns “Hamara Samman” and “Hamara Swabhiman.” Schools and institutions observed the day by reading the Preamble and conducting programmes promoting constitutional awareness, reinforcing that a strong democracy depends on informed and active citizenship.
