Tragedy struck when 22-year-old Indian student Ajit Singh Chaudhary was found dead in Ufa, Russia, after missing for 19 days. His body surfaced on Thursday in a dam near the White River.
Ajit belonged to Kaphanwada village in Rajasthan’s Alwar district. He joined Bashkir State Medical University in 2023 to study MBBS. On October 19, he left his hostel around 11 a.m. to buy milk but never came back.
Soon after, locals found his clothes, mobile phone, and shoes near the riverbank. Alwar Saras Dairy chairman Nitin Sangwan said Ajit’s friends identified the body at the site.
Former Union Minister Jitendra Singh Alwar called the incident suspicious and heartbreaking. He urged External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar to ensure a detailed probe and help bring Ajit’s body home. “His family worked hard to send him abroad, and now they have lost their only hope,” he said.
The All India Medical Students’ Association (Foreign Wing) has also appealed for justice and government support. The university has yet to issue an official statement on the student’s death.
