IPS Officer N. Sanjay Surrenders in ACB Court

IPS officer N. Sanjay being taken to Vijayawada ACB Court in fire safety equipment corruption case

Vijayawada: Senior IPS officer N. Sanjay, accused in a corruption case linked to the purchase of fire safety equipment, surrendered before the Vijayawada ACB Court today as directed by the Supreme Court. The court, after hearing both sides, placed him in judicial custody until September 8. ACB officials later shifted him to Vijayawada Central Jail.

The allegations date back to the YSRCP government’s tenure when Sanjay served as the CID Chief. He allegedly colluded with private firms in the procurement of fire safety equipment for awareness programs meant for Scheduled Castes (SCs) and Scheduled Tribes (STs). Investigators claim the irregularities caused a loss of ₹1.19 crore to the exchequer.

Earlier, the Andhra Pradesh High Court had granted anticipatory bail to Sanjay on January 30. However, the Supreme Court later overturned that relief and ordered him to surrender before the trial court within three weeks. The apex court clarified that he could file for bail only after surrendering.

Following these directions, Sanjay appeared before the Vijayawada ACB Court, marking a major step in the corruption probe. The case is now set for further hearings in the coming weeks.
