Counting for the 2025 Assembly by-elections began on Friday, bringing early shifts in political momentum across several key states. In Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP secured a decisive victory in the Nagrota Assembly seat, defeating the JKNPP candidate by a strong margin of 24,647 votes, ensuring the party retains its hold in the region.
In Rajasthan, early counting trends indicate an advantage for the Congress. Pramod Jain ‘Bhaya’ is currently leading from the Anta Assembly seat, while independent candidate Naresh Meena is positioned behind him. The Congress appears to be gaining similar traction in Telangana as well.
At Hyderabad’s high-profile Jubilee Hills constituency, Congress candidate V. Naveen Yadav is showing a commanding lead over BRS contender Maganti Sunitha, strengthening the party’s prospects in the southern state.
Over in Punjab’s Tarn Taran, Shiromani Akali Dal’s Sukhwinder Kaur is ahead in early trends, while AAP candidate Harmeet Singh remains behind in the race.
In Odisha, the BJP continues its upward performance with Jay Dholakia taking a clear lead in the Nuapada by-election, leaving both Congress and BJD candidates on the back foot as early numbers roll in.
The counting process is still underway, and trends may evolve through the day, but early indicators suggest a strong showing for the BJP in J&K and Odisha, while the Congress is gaining momentum in Rajasthan and Telangana.
