Jharkhand pulled off a sensational run chase to register the highest successful chase in Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy history, handing Punjab a crushing six-wicket defeat in the Super League Group A match on Friday. Kumar Kushagra and Ishan Kishan led the batting blitz that left Punjab stunned.
Earlier, Punjab rode on a breathtaking century from Salil Arora to post a massive 235 for six. Arora smashed 125 runs off just 45 balls, hammering nine fours and eleven sixes. He reached his hundred in only 39 deliveries and punished left-arm pacer Sushant Mishra in the death overs. Despite losing two wickets for 28 runs, Punjab looked set for a dominant win.
However, Jharkhand batters had other plans. Kushagra played with composure, while Ishan Kishan attacked relentlessly to keep the asking rate under control. Their partnership broke Punjab’s bowling confidence and shifted momentum completely. Jharkhand chased down the target with authority, rewriting tournament records.
Arora’s brilliant knock ultimately went in vain. While his performance may catch IPL scouts’ attention ahead of the mini auction, Punjab will reflect on a missed opportunity. Jharkhand, meanwhile, celebrated a historic night that showcased fearless batting and team unity.
