Kahalgon Assembly Without Sadanand Singh

Bihar Elections Kahalgon Assembly Seat news

The Kahalgon Assembly seat in Bihar holds special significance in state politics. For over five decades, veteran leader Sadanand Singh was the face of this constituency. Known for his long political journey, he entered the Bihar Assembly in 1969 and went on to win nine out of twelve elections. His absence in the 2025 elections marks the end of an era.

Sadanand Singh served as Speaker of the Bihar Legislative Assembly, state Congress president, and minister. Even when denied a Congress ticket in 1985, he contested independently and won. After retiring in 2020, Congress fielded his son, Shubhanand Mukesh, who lost to BJP’s Pawan Kumar Yadav by a record margin. Singh passed away in 2021, making this the first assembly election after his death.

Congress has dominated Kahalgon, winning 11 times, while BJP secured its first victory only in 2020. Now, with contenders from Congress, BJP, and JDU eyeing the seat, the political battle has intensified. Local issues such as rural roads, NTPC’s ash dyke, employment, and industrial development are expected to dominate the campaign. The contest will decide if Congress can reclaim its stronghold or if NDA will retain control.
