Kerala MLA M.K. Muneer in critical care

Kerala MLA M.K. Muneer in Critical Care After Cardiac Arrest has created concern across political and public circles in the state. The senior leader of the Indian Union Muslim League (IUML) and Koduvally MLA was admitted to Meitra Hospital in Kozhikode on Thursday, September 11, 2025. Doctors confirmed that he suffered a cardiac arrest triggered by hypokalemia, a dangerously low level of potassium in the blood.

Hospital authorities said Muneer is in the intensive care unit. He remains critical but stable and is responding positively to advanced treatment. Specialists are monitoring his heart function and electrolyte levels. A medical team is also working to prevent further complications.

Muneer’s sudden health crisis has drawn reactions from across the political spectrum. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan and Opposition Leader V.D. Satheesan expressed their concern and wished him a quick recovery. Several IUML leaders, including P.K. Kunhalikutty, visited the hospital to meet his family. Supporters gathered outside Meitra Hospital, offering prayers and waiting for updates.

Doctors explained that hypokalemia can cause muscle weakness, irregular heartbeat, and in severe cases, cardiac arrest. They advised people, especially those with chronic illnesses, to undergo regular health checkups to avoid such emergencies.

M.K. Muneer, 59, is one of the prominent faces of the IUML. He has served as a minister in previous Kerala governments and is widely respected for his social work and engagement with youth. His illness has shocked both party members and the wider public who see him as a dynamic leader with a strong connect to the people.

Hospital authorities are expected to release further updates in the coming days. For now, his family and supporters remain hopeful that he will recover from this medical emergency.
