Tension gripped the Khandwa Municipal Corporation on Wednesday after civic employees staged a protest demanding the removal of the local SDM. Employees accused the officer of using derogatory language during an official meeting earlier this week.
According to staff members, the incident occurred on December 15 during a land-patta distribution meeting at the collectorate. They alleged that SDM Rishi Singhai referred to municipal employees as “bulls and sheep.” Protesters also claimed he accused them of corruption in the presence of public representatives.
Angry employees stopped work and raised slogans outside the mayor’s chamber. Municipal employees’ union president Harish Dubey said the remarks hurt their dignity. He stated that workers begin duties as early as 5 am and work longer hours than most officials. He warned of a larger agitation if such behaviour continues.
MIC member Rajesh Yadav supported the protest and demanded immediate action. He said officials should either prove corruption charges or withdraw such allegations. He cautioned that failure to act could disturb civic order in the city.
Mayor Amrita Yadav also condemned the remarks. She said no officer has the right to use abusive language against employees. She assured that the issue would be raised with the district collector for strict action. Civic staff insisted that respect and self-esteem remain essential for effective administration.
