A terrorist was killed and three army personnel, including an officer, were injured in an encounter in Jammu and Kashmir’s Kulgam district on Monday morning. Officials said one of the injured, a junior commissioned officer, is in critical condition.
The encounter broke out in the Guddar forest area of Kulgam when security forces launched a search operation based on intelligence inputs. The joint team included the Indian Army, Jammu and Kashmir Police, and CRPF. As troops moved in, terrorists opened fire, forcing the forces to retaliate. After a fierce exchange of gunfire, one terrorist was eliminated. The search operation continues.
This is the second major encounter in Kulgam in five weeks. Last month, another operation in the Akhal forest stretched for 11 days, leaving two soldiers dead and 10 injured.
Earlier, in the Gurez sector, two Pakistani terrorists were killed. One of them, Bagu Khan, known as the “human GPS,” had been wanted for decades for helping infiltrators cross into India since 1995. He was linked to Hizbul Mujahideen. The other slain terrorist also belonged to Pakistan, but his identity is yet to be confirmed.
