India–Poland Diplomatic Tensions Rise Over Pakistan, Russia and Security Issues
A diplomatic dispute has emerged between India and Poland after sharp exchanges between their Foreign Ministers over Pakistan, Russia, and security issues. External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar warned Poland against actions that could “fuel terrorism” in South Asia, an apparent reference to Pakistan, and criticised the European Union’s oil sanctions on Russia as “selective targeting” that ignores the energy needs of developing countries. In response, Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski questioned India’s participation in Zapad military exercises in Russia, calling it “threatening” in the context of the Ukraine conflict. The public exchange reflects growing tensions between India and some European nations over differing approaches to global security, sanctions on Russia, and regional terrorism. India has maintained that its foreign policy decisions are based on national interest and strategic autonomy, while urging Europe to adopt a more balanced view of global conflicts and terrorism.
