A Lalu Prasad Yadav assets investigation may begin if a formal application is submitted, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Sinha said on Thursday. His statement has triggered a strong political reaction across the state.
Vijay Sinha, who also handles the Revenue and Land Reforms Department, said the government will act strictly on any written complaint received during public grievance hearings. He made it clear that rules apply equally to everyone, regardless of political status.
The minister said his department is focusing on illegal land dealings and disputed properties in Bihar. He added that officials found supporting illegal activities will face strict action.
Soon after the statement, the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) and the Congress hit back. RJD leaders accused the government of using investigative threats as a political weapon. They said the BJP-led alliance wants to distract people from real governance issues.
Congress leaders also criticised the remarks. They claimed the statement shows political vendetta and not a genuine concern for transparency.
Meanwhile, leaders from the ruling alliance defended Vijay Sinha. They said that a Lalu Prasad Yadav assets investigation may begin only if citizens file proper complaints, and the process will follow the law.
The issue has once again intensified political tensions in Bihar.
