LPG Gas Subsidy Cut: Centre Tightens Rules for High-Income Families

LPG Gas Subsidy Cut for families earning above ₹10 lakh in India

The LPG Gas Subsidy Cut has become a major decision by the Central Government aimed at reducing subsidy benefits for high-income households. Authorities plan stricter checks to ensure that only eligible families receive the subsidy. The LPG Gas Subsidy Cut mainly targets households whose annual income exceeds ₹10 lakh.

The government has instructed oil marketing companies such as Indian Oil Corporation, Bharat Petroleum, and Hindustan Petroleum to verify income details using Income Tax Department records. Officials will identify consumers whose income crosses the limit using PAN-linked data and remove them from the subsidy list.

Under the rules, authorities will consider the income of both the LPG connection holder and their spouse. If either person earns more than ₹10 lakh annually, the household will lose subsidy eligibility. Many consumers have already started receiving SMS alerts asking them to respond within seven days if the information is incorrect.

However, beneficiaries under Pradhan Mantri Ujjwala Yojana will continue to receive LPG support. The government says the move will reduce subsidy spending and redirect funds to welfare programmes for poor families.
