Manipur Police Arrest Militants, Seize Weapons Cache

Manipur police officers during arms recovery operation

In a series of coordinated operations across the state, Manipur police arrested three insurgent cadres and recovered a cache of firearms and ammunition from a concealed hillside site. The security sweep underscores the ongoing crackdown against banned militant outfits in the region.

The most significant discovery occurred on November 20, when officers located a hidden cache in the Urangpat hill ranges under Yaingangpokpi Police Station. The recovered items included a pistol with an empty magazine, a tear-gas gun, a country-made bolt-action rifle, a .22 rifle, three tear-smoke shells, 11 live rounds of assorted calibres, and 25 empty cartridge cases of 7.62 mm and 9 mm.

A day earlier, on November 19, three individuals linked to insurgent groups were apprehended during separate operations in Imphal East and Bishnupur districts. Among them was Bidyasagar Ngangom (19), a PREPAK operative from Kwakeithel Konjeng Leikai, arrested under Porompat Police Station.

Salam Sadananda Singh (Bablu, 28), a KYKL cadre, was detained from Phaknung Makha Leikai under Lamlai Police Station. Authorities said he had been involved in extorting local residents. Wangkhem Romesh Singh (Rome/Khagemba, 43), another KYKL member, was arrested in Moirang Ngangkha Leikai, Bishnupur district.

Officials confirmed that investigations into all three cases are ongoing, and further searches may follow as part of continuing security measures. These operations highlight the commitment of Manipur police to dismantle insurgent networks and secure volatile areas across the state.
