The Maoist Party has announced a nationwide Bharat Bandh on October 24, protesting the Centre’s ongoing anti-insurgency mission, ‘Operation Kagar’. In a letter released under the name of party spokesperson Abhay, the Maoists stated that they have already begun state-wise protest programmes from October 23 and urged people to support the bandh.
The statement demanded an immediate halt to Operation Kagar, alleging that it targets tribal communities and suppresses public movements. The Maoists also appealed to opposition parties across the country to extend support and build a people’s resistance against the Centre’s policies.
Security agencies are expected to be on high alert, particularly in Maoist-affected regions, as the bandh date approaches.
