Hyderabad: Telangana Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy announced that a barrage will definitely be constructed at Thummidihatti as part of the Pranahita-Chevella project. Speaking to the media, he said two alignment options are currently under review and one will be finalized by October 22.
Explaining the plans, the minister stated that the first alignment involves a 71.5 km gravity canal and a 14 km tunnel to carry water to Sundilla, while the second alignment proposes a direct water transfer to Yellampalli through a pumping station. Uttam emphasized that the project aims to maximize water utilization from the Pranahita River for irrigation and drinking purposes in drought-prone areas of north Telangana.
He reiterated the government’s commitment to completing the long-pending project and ensuring equitable water distribution across the state.
