MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra Faces Eviction Notice Amid Rape Case

Officials inspect government house of MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra amid rape case and eviction notice

A three-member team from the Patiala Development Authority, PWD (Buildings and Roads), and Estate Office inspected the government house of rape accused AAP MLA Harmeet Singh Pathanmajra in Bhupindra Nagar, Patiala. The MLA, who is absconding, faces charges of rape, cheating, and criminal intimidation.

The government served an eviction notice to his wife, Simranjit Kaur, on September 2, accusing misuse of the residence for political gatherings. The house was allotted on October 20, 2022. Simranjit moved court citing health reasons, and her petition will be heard on Friday. Officials noted large-scale political meetings at the quarter, inconvenience to neighbours, and failure to submit rent receipts. The notice warned of cancellation under Punjab Government House Allotment Rules, 1983.

Advocate BS Bhullar, representing Simranjit, dismissed the charges as politically motivated. He said occasional visits by constituents cannot be termed misuse and argued that eviction without a proper 30-day notice would be unconstitutional.

Meanwhile, Pathanmajra fled from Karnal as police attempted to arrest him on September 2. His anticipatory bail plea was rejected on September 10. On Thursday, a local court granted bail to 10 of his 11 aides who were arrested for harbouring him.
