MP Cabinet Clears Permanent Status for all regular government employees, marking a major administrative reform in Madhya Pradesh. The state government has decided to abolish the 1960 Government Servants (Temporary and Semi-Permanent Service) Rules, effectively ending the distinction between permanent and temporary regular employees.
The decision was approved in a cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Dr Mohan Yadav, following a proposal from the Finance Department. With this change, all employees in regular service will now be considered permanent. This move is expected to bring long-pending relief to thousands of employees across departments.
Officials said the biggest benefit will be the removal of delays in confirmation after the probation period. Employees will now receive salary increments on time. Earlier, two to five percent of staff in several departments, including the Secretariat, remained in temporary status. Due to this, they often missed opportunities for deputation, promotions, leave benefits, and postings that required a minimum of five years of regular service.
The cabinet also approved the abolition of work-charged and contingency posts in construction departments. The government stated that since most large projects are now executed through construction agencies, these posts are no longer required. Existing employees will continue until their service period ends, after which the posts will automatically lapse.
The government clarified that employee regularisation and compliance with court orders will not be affected by this decision.
