The Madhya Pradesh government has taken a major relief decision for families affected by the Sardar Sarovar dam project. The state cabinet approved free registration of residential plots allotted to over 25,600 displaced families.
Chief Minister Mohan Yadav chaired the cabinet meeting where the decision received approval. Under the move, the state will bear the full cost of stamp duty and registration fees. The Narmada Valley Development Authority will make these payments as per the approved SOP.
The decision will benefit displaced families living in Alirajpur, Barwani, Khargone, and Dhar districts. Several areas in these districts were submerged due to the Sardar Sarovar dam built on the Narmada River in Gujarat. The government estimates a financial burden of nearly ₹600 crore due to this relief measure.
Along with rehabilitation relief, the cabinet approved two major irrigation projects worth ₹620.65 crore for Maihar and Katni districts. The Barhi Micro Lift Irrigation Project will cost ₹566.92 crore. It will provide irrigation to 20,000 hectares across 27 villages in Barhi and Vijayraghavgarh tehsils.
The second project is the Dhanwahi Micro Pressure Irrigation Project. It will cost ₹53.73 crore and benefit 2,810 farmers. The project will irrigate 3,500 hectares in nine villages.
The government said these decisions reflect its commitment to rehabilitation and agricultural growth.
