The Municipal Department has officially appointed Mumtaz Begum as the in-charge Mayor of Kadapa following the removal of former Mayor Suresh Babu amid corruption allegations related to civil contracts. The orders were issued by the State Municipal Department, entrusting her with all responsibilities of the Mayor’s office.
This decision comes after Vigilance investigations confirmed irregularities in contracts handled during Suresh Babu’s tenure, which were reportedly awarded to his family members in violation of municipal regulations. Suresh Babu had challenged his removal in the High Court, but the department, considering the Vigilance report and Commissioner’s recommendations, reaffirmed his dismissal.
With Mumtaz Begum now in charge, the Kadapa municipal administration is expected to ensure transparent governance and maintain smooth operations. Officials highlighted that this move aims to restore public trust and enforce strict compliance in municipal projects and contract allocations.
