The Muzaffarpur police–public clash has led to strict action against several police personnel in Bihar. Authorities suspended SHO Raja Singh and members of a police raiding team after a violent incident in Choraniya village of Muzaffarpur district.
The Muzaffarpur police–public clash happened on the night of March 17 when a police team went to the village to conduct a raid. During the operation, a confrontation broke out between villagers and police officers. The situation quickly turned violent and included stone-pelting and firing.
During the clash, a farmer named Jagatveer Rai died after he was hit by a bullet. Senior Superintendent of Police Kantesh Kumar Mishra later ordered the suspension of six members of the raiding team, including SHO Raja Singh.
Officials said the team entered the village with insufficient force and without proper assessment of the situation. The police department has started a departmental inquiry to determine responsibility for the incident.
Villagers claimed the officer fired the shot that killed the farmer, while police said the firing happened in self-defence after the crowd attacked them. Authorities are continuing the investigation to find the exact cause of the death.
