The Nalanda Temple Stampede in Bihar has left several families in grief after a deadly crowd surge at the Sheetla Mata Temple. At least eight women died and many others suffered injuries in the tragic incident on Tuesday morning.
The Nalanda Temple Stampede happened at the Sheetla Mata Temple in Maghra village near Bihar Sharif. A large number of devotees had gathered at the temple for prayers. The crowd suddenly became uncontrollable, which created panic among the devotees. Several people fell during the rush and others got trapped in the crowd.
After the tragedy, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar expressed deep sorrow over the deaths. He announced ₹6 lakh compensation for the family of each victim.
Officials said the state government will give ₹4 lakh from the Disaster Management Department and ₹2 lakh from the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund.
Police and district officials quickly reached the spot and began rescue work. Authorities also started an inquiry to find out the exact cause of the incident.
