NDA Faces Drought in 8 Districts

Bihar election NDA drought in Buxar and Kaimur

In the 2020 Bihar Assembly elections, the NDA managed to form the government but struggled in many districts. The alliance of BJP and JDU performed poorly, especially in eight districts including Buxar and Kaimur, where the NDA could not win a single seat. This political drought for the NDA showed the strength of the Grand Alliance, which dominated most of these areas.

The eight districts where the NDA drew a blank were Sheohar, Kishanganj, Buxar, Kaimur, Rohtas, Arwal, Jehanabad, and Aurangabad. In six of these, the Grand Alliance swept all seats. In Kishanganj and Kaimur, the Third Front also managed to take seats. On the other side, NDA had strongholds in districts like Champaran, Darbhanga, Muzaffarpur, and Nalanda, where it outperformed rivals.

While the NDA as a whole secured 125 seats against the Grand Alliance’s 110, this complete lack of representation in eight districts exposed its weak pockets. Interestingly, in Supaul and Jamui, the Grand Alliance had no success, showing how Bihar’s electoral map remained sharply divided.
