Nagaur MP Hanuman Beniwal strongly opposed the Nuclear Energy Bill 2025 during a Lok Sabha debate on Wednesday. He warned that the proposed changes do not serve national interest. Beniwal criticised the move to open the nuclear energy sector to private companies.
The RLP convenor said the bill goes beyond market reforms. He argued that it changes the nature of risk, liability, and regulatory oversight. According to him, the legislation expands risks instead of strengthening India’s nuclear framework. He added that public trust in the bill remains weak.
Beniwal said the proposal is not a technical amendment. He claimed it attempts to alter constitutional principles, public safety norms, and government accountability. He reminded the House that nuclear energy remained under public control even after historic nuclear tests conducted by past governments.
Raising sharp questions, Beniwal warned that weak and non-transparent privatisation could impose heavy costs on citizens. He expressed concern over limited liability provisions for nuclear operators. He said nuclear accidents impact not only local areas but also future generations. Limited liability, he added, may fail victims during environmental disasters.
Separately, Beniwal highlighted the issue of fake fertilisers, seeds, and pesticides. He said poor-quality agricultural inputs harm farmers nationwide. He criticised the lack of scientific studies despite repeated farmer complaints. He also questioned the accuracy of official data on enforcement actions.
