Operation Sindoor: Shell Remains Recovered from Dal Lake Sent for Examination

Authorities recovering shell debris from Dal Lake during Operation Sindoor in Srinagar

As part of Operation Sindoor, authorities have recovered shell remains from Dal Lake, which have been sent for forensic examination, officials confirmed on Sunday. The operation, launched to trace unexploded ordnance and debris in the region, aims to ensure the safety of residents and tourists in the popular water body area.

The recovered shell fragments were found floating near the banks of Dal Lake during a routine inspection by security and disaster management teams. Immediate measures were taken to cordon off the area, preventing access to civilians while the debris was carefully collected and secured.

“The shell remains have been sent to a specialized laboratory for detailed examination,” a senior police official said. “This will help us ascertain the type, origin, and potential risks associated with the debris.” Authorities stressed that there is no immediate threat to public safety, but precautionary measures remain in place.

Operation Sindoor, launched earlier this month, has been instrumental in identifying and removing several potentially hazardous materials from the region. Security forces, in coordination with local administration, continue to conduct systematic searches of lakes, rivers, and other areas that may contain remnants of old ordnance.

Local residents expressed relief at the proactive approach, highlighting the importance of such measures in preventing accidents. “Dal Lake is a hub for tourism and daily activities, so ensuring safety is crucial,” said a resident of Srinagar.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious objects found in water bodies or public spaces. The ongoing examination of the shell remains is expected to provide critical insights that will guide future safety protocols in the region.
