Early Sunday morning, police received a bomb threat call about actor-politician Vijay’s Chennai home in Neelankarai on East Coast Road. The call, made to the Chennai Police Control Room at 5:20 a.m., warned of explosives planted at his residence.
Immediately, the police deployed a bomb squad and a sniffer dog. They cordoned off the area and began inspecting the premises carefully. After over an hour of searching, officers confirmed no explosives were present. They declared the threat a hoax.
The Neelankarai Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to trace the caller. They are checking CCTV footage and call records. However, the motive behind the threat remains unclear.
This incident comes just days after a tragic stampede at a rally organized by Vijay’s party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), in Karur. That stampede claimed 39 lives and injured over 50 people. In response, Vijay expressed grief and offered condolences to the victims’ families.
The bomb threat has increased security concerns. Consequently, police have strengthened security around Vijay’s residence. His team urged the public to avoid spreading rumours until the police complete their investigation.
Furthermore, police said they will treat such threats seriously. They stressed vigilance to ensure public safety. This incident shows the growing risks for public figures. It also highlights the need for quick police response to such threats.
The police continue to investigate both the hoax call and the Karur rally tragedy. Meanwhile, Vijay remains under police protection while the matter is resolved.
