Palam Railway Crossing Closure has triggered new traffic restrictions in Delhi as the crossing shuts for three months starting November 3. The Delhi Traffic Police issued an advisory warning commuters of congestion and diversions around the area. The closure is part of ongoing construction work, and officials have urged motorists to follow alternative routes to avoid delays.
The authorities issued a detailed traffic advisory to help commuters plan their routes. The closure point connects several busy neighbourhoods. Therefore, even a short halt can trigger long queues. With this extended shutdown, the police expect consistent congestion, especially during peak hours.
To ease movement, the advisory lists alternative routes. Vehicles coming from Dwarka can use the Palam–Dwarka Flyover, which remains open. Meanwhile, commuters approaching from other parts of Southwest Delhi should take nearby link roads instead of heading toward the railway crossing. These diversions aim to reduce pressure on the narrow approach roads around Palam.
Heavy and commercial vehicles have been given stricter directions. They must completely avoid the Palam stretch during the closure. Instead, they should divert to Ring Road or NH-48, which can handle larger traffic loads. According to officials, keeping heavy vehicles away from the area will help maintain a steady traffic flow for regular commuters.
The Delhi Traffic Police also urged residents to follow real-time updates through social media and navigation apps. These platforms will provide continuous alerts on diversions and congestion. Officers said such timely information will help commuters avoid unexpected delays.
Since Palam is a key connector between Dwarka, Janakpuri, and Delhi Cantt, the crossing’s closure will impact thousands of daily travellers. However, police officials believe that coordinated diversions and early planning can significantly reduce inconvenience.
