Students of Punjab Engineering College (PEC) Chandigarh have achieved another remarkable milestone by developing a rocket that will compete at the International Rocket Engineering Competition 2026 in the United States. A 15-member aerospace engineering team tested the prototype in New Chandigarh, where it successfully reached a height of 500 meters. This performance earned PEC an official entry into the prestigious global event.
The team is now building the final rocket using advanced carbon-fiber technology, a process expected to take around three months. PEC will submit its Preliminary Design Report (PDR) on December 15, detailing the rocket’s capabilities, engineering design, and predicted performance.
For initial trials, the students created a low-cost yet high-precision model equipped with a solid rocket motor that delivered nearly 95% accuracy compared to professional rockets. After four years of continuous effort, PEC has finally secured its spot in the international competition. Team lead Dr. Rakesh Kumar said the design is complete and expressed confidence in the rocket’s global performance.
