Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a sharp attack on the Congress during his Assam visit on Sunday. He accused the party of supporting illegal Bangladeshi infiltration for vote bank politics.
Addressing a public meeting in Namrup after laying the foundation stone of a ₹10,601 crore fertiliser plant, Modi said Congress cared only about power. He alleged that the party ignored Assam’s identity, land, and forests. According to him, Congress opposed voter list revision only to protect its political interests.
Modi said Congress governments failed to modernise old factories in Assam. He claimed outdated technology led to the closure of several industrial units. He added that the BJP’s double-engine government was correcting decades of neglect.
The Prime Minister stated that his government was committed to development and national security. He said efforts to improve Assam faced constant opposition from Congress.
Earlier in the day, Modi interacted with students on a Brahmaputra river cruise under the “Pariksha Pe Charcha” programme. Twenty-five students from various schools participated.
Modi also paid tribute to martyrs of the Assam Movement at Guwahati’s Shaheed Smarak. He honoured 860 people who sacrificed their lives opposing illegal infiltration. He reaffirmed his resolve to protect Assam’s culture, progress, and pride.
