Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched two major schemes, PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana and the Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, aimed at improving farmers’ welfare and boosting self-reliance. Addressing a Krishi programme in New Delhi, he said the initiatives will transform the lives of millions of farmers across India.
The PM Dhan-Dhaanya Krishi Yojana focuses on 100 districts selected based on crop yield, farming frequency, and access to loans or investments. Modi explained that the scheme integrates 36 government programmes to strengthen agriculture infrastructure and promote efficiency.
The Pulse Self-Reliance Mission, launched with a budget of Rs 11,440 crore, aims to increase pulse production and enhance protein availability for vegetarians. Modi emphasized that the mission also seeks to empower future generations through better nutrition and sustainable farming practices.
Highlighting reforms since 2014, PM Modi stressed the importance of supporting agriculture from seeds to market. He added that modernising farming is essential for India’s rapid development, ensuring farmers gain better returns while improving food security and nutritional outcomes for the population.
