PNB Cybersecurity Spending Increase: Bank Strengthens Digital Defenses Against AI Threats

PNB cybersecurity spending increase to tackle AI-driven cyber threats

The PNB cybersecurity spending increase shows how banks are responding to growing digital threats. Punjab National Bank has raised its cybersecurity budget significantly to protect its systems from advanced cyber risks linked to artificial intelligence. The move reflects rising concerns across the banking sector about new AI-driven vulnerabilities.

The PNB cybersecurity spending increase means the bank will allocate nearly 20% of its technology budget—around ₹700–₹800 crore—for cybersecurity this financial year. This is more than 50% higher than last year’s spending. The bank may increase the amount further if new security needs arise.

Officials said the bank is accelerating the purchase of security tools such as firewalls and monitoring systems. It has also introduced continuous 24-hour audits to detect vulnerabilities quickly and strengthen digital safety.

The investment comes as regulators warn about risks from advanced AI models that can identify system weaknesses faster. Banks across India are now strengthening cybersecurity to protect customer data and financial systems.
