A shocking case has revealed how police withheld court orders for almost 18 years in Bihar. This matter came to light after a 72-year-old man, Umashankar Singh, approached the Patna High Court. The key issue is that police withheld court orders linked to an attachment order issued in 2007, but the order stayed inside the Sahibganj police station without action.
The attachment order was against a man accused of planning a robbery under the Arms Act. The police received the original information in 1997. During the raid, one man was caught with a rifle, and he named another person, Uma Singh of Kesaria, as his accomplice. After this, the police filed for a warrant, proclamation and confiscation order.
For years, the case did not move. The accused’s correct address and father’s name were also missing in the police file, making it worse.
When the High Court heard the petition, the judge ordered the Sahibganj police station in-charge and the investigating officer to appear on December 12 with the entire record. The court wants them to explain why the warrant and attachment order were ignored for so long.
The SSP must also ensure both officers appear before the High Court.
